Boris has taken part in an excrutiating interview with the US magazine Human Events. The interviewer seems to see the external world as a Wodehouse novel without the dark overtones.
The European Union is “wacky” and a Boris gaffe made for “a great “Top Gear” quote“, but we are assured he’s “dead serious” nonetheless.
“Boris, sometimes belittled in the liberal UK press as a ‘buffoon’, has gone from strength to strength. First, he banned drinking alcohol on the Underground subway cars. Next, he started a campaign to put lots of bobbies — armed with metal detectors — on the streets to randomly stop and search ‘yobs’ suspected of carrying switchblades and other knives.”
Our favourite “chappie” does chip in to give his political “opinions”:
“We should be free-market, tolerant, broadly libertarian (but not ultra-libertarian), pro-immigrant, anti-regulation, inclined to see the value in tradition, pro-hunting(!), pro-motorist, and pro ‘standing on your own two feet’.”

Pro-motorist? In London that’s historically meant ‘anti-public transport’. Mildly relevant factoid - the GLC was originally set up by the Tories to promote a scheme of ringing London with enormous freeways. This idea comes back every few years.
“Pro motorist”, yeah all London needs is more cars..
