Boris Deploys The Celebrities

July 17th, 2008 by BenSix

As part of his campaign to deglamorise knife crime, Boris has been attempting the utilise the celebrity market. After a meeting with Lily Allen, City Hall issued a statement saying that:

“Lily had a number of suggestions on how to challenge the notion that carrying a knife is streetwise or cool. She also had proposals to encourage teenagers to be more ambitious about themselves and their communities.”

Previously, Allen had written on her Myspace blog:

“please can everyone stop stabbing each other in the UK , it’s really sad , my thoughts are with all the families affected by these heinious crimes . we need to have a knife amnesty , we should put on a big concert to raise awareness and stop the violence , Boris , if your listening , call me man..”

This led The Star to claim that Allen was indeed staging a ‘knife aid’ concert, and ‘could‘ invite Amy Winehouse, Razor-light, Kaiser Chiefs, Leona Lewis, Jay-Z, and the Sugarbabes. As this came from The Star, however, we have little idea of what Allen’s suggestions actually constituted.

Boris has also called upon public figures such as Rio Ferdinand to ‘speak against the evils of carrying knives‘, while the Islington Gazette is suggesting that he is to ‘lobby the Gunners and other London clubs to find multi-million-pound initiatives in a bid to halt the rising number of stabbings‘.
