Boris Back To Work – The Week Ahead

September 1st, 2008 by Tom

Enjoy the summer?  Not sure Boris did, foreign jaunts apart.  Back to work now, so a few dates for the diary, courtesy of the London Assembly RSS feed:

  • 2/9/2008 – The LA Environment Committee will question, amongst others, Sir Simon Milton and a chap called Richard Blakeway I hadn’t heard of before, who’s a Mayoral Advisor.
  • 3/9/2008 – The LA Culture, Sport and Tourism Committee will start considering the thorny subject of the 2012 Olympics legacy
  • 4/9/2008 – The LA Budget and Performance Committee will question Boris on his policy priorities and their budget implications.  Sounds fun, more so if someone tries to cost the bendy bus and Routemaster policies.  Additionally, Brian Coleman will appear at the same meeting.  Watch Boris run, I reckon.
  • 9/9/2008 – The LA Transport Committee will hold a seminar on the beleagured Cross River Tram project.  Notable attendees include Professor Stephen Glaister, one of the TfL board academics not reappointed by Boris Johnson the other week.  Brian ‘Taxi For Mr.’ Coleman, who is a staunch opponent of the scheme*, is presumably not on the the list of speakers.

P.S. I think we need a calendar page for this stuff.

* Probably because it takes road-space away from taxis.

[Updated when Guano pointed out that I'd got the month wrong...]

The Cross-River tram seminar is on 9th September, not November.

DId I put 9/11? Brain failure there. I ought to know that really, it was my late grandmother’s birthday…

    Thanks.

Richard Blakeway is currently handling the housing portfolio while Boris / Sir Simon decide whether or note to appoint someone permanently.

Thank you. I found (well, googled) that he’s a graduate of Hull University (2001, so age about 30) who’s been working as an assistant to the Tory MP Tony Baldry. He’s one of the transition team, on £3500 a month. Interesting to see him still around, really, and apparently considered highly enough positioned to handle questions at a LA committee meeting.
