Boris Launches An Inquiry Into Alleged MPA Racism

October 6th, 2008 by BenSix

Boris has launched an inquiry into allegations of racial discrimination at the MPA.

The announcement comes after the Metropolitan Black Police Association warned that they would be discouraging potential applicants from joining the force. In a statement, a spokesman said that:

“We would be failing our duty as an association if we did not share our current experiences with those who want to join the Met.

“The boycott and our active discouragement will continue during Black History Month and beyond until the Met leadership and the Metropolitan Police Authority convince us that they care about race and equality for its workforce and the people of London.”

Ian Blair’s last few months as Commissioner were hampered by controversy resulting from a discrimination case launched by his Assistant, Tarique Ghaffur. Moreover, Mike Fuller, the Chief Constable of Kent Police, has said that:

“BME (black and minority ethnic) officers will often have to work twice as hard to be recognised, to compete with their peers and that is a big concern.”
