Again rather belatedly – it seems to take at least two weeks to collect them.
Main things to note – murders in September: a low 8 or 9 (depending on where you look), confirming a gut instinct that things are a lot quieter now after the flaps earlier in the year. Total murders are 20 *fewer* than this time last year, again confirming the downward trend from averaging about 20 killings a month in 2004 down to about 13 or so now – that’s about a 30-35% improvement.
The Met’s own people want you to know:
- Total notifiable offences are at their lowest level in 10 years
- Most serious violence and assault with injury has fallen by 2,335 offences compared to last year
- Robberies are down by 8,633 offences – down 20.3%
- Knife crime is down by 728 offences – down 10.2%. September has the lowest level of offences since the start of this financial year, reduced by 198 offences, down 17.9% against an average of the previous 5 months.
- Reported rape is up 186 offences – up 9.3%. However, rape is currently at its second lowest level in the same comparison period since Sept 2000 with a monthly average of 182.6 offences compared to 222 at its peak in the 12 months to Sept 2003

This tallies in with data from our local Safer Neighbourhood Team in Crystal Palace. In terms of Core Crime (robbery, burglary, theft of and theft from motor vehicle) we are approx 30% down on the same quarter last year.
