Water Mains Update: Boris, Mayor Of Venice?

January 14th, 2009 by Tom

Just to emphasis how much trouble bursting water mains is causing in London right now, here’s a useful link.  Searching for ‘burst’ finds a nice round ten current incidents across the capital:

  • Temporary traffic lights and burst water main on A306 Castelnau both ways at B350 Lonsdale Road / Merthyr Terrace. Three way temporary lights have been implemented just south of Hammersmith Bridge.
  • A113 Chigwell Road Southbound closed due to burst water main between A1400 Southend Road and Victoria Road. The main has burst near to Onslow Gardens just South of the North Circular Road. Diversion: Buses are using the slip road from Charlie Browns Roundabout, then Mulberry Way and Cowslip Road to South Woodford. Affecting routes 179 and W14
  • Burst water main and surface water on A4 West Cromwell Road Eastbound at A3220 Earl’s Court Road. No restrictions in place.
  • Road surface in poor condition due to emergency repairs and burst water main on A5 Cricklewood Broadway Southbound around Rondu Road. Lane one (Of two) is partly blocked, but not affecting traffic.
  • Temporary traffic lights, emergency repairs and burst water main on A407 High Road both ways around Brondesbury Park. Near the library. The road was briefly closed on Sunday night, but is now open with temporary lights.
  • Burst water main and surface water on A503 Seven Sisters Road Northbound at A1201 Stroud Green Road. No restrictions in place.
  • One lane closed due to burst water main on A205 Chiswick High Road Southbound between Stile Hall Gardens and Kew Bridge. Lane one (Of two) has been coned off just before Kew Bridge.
  • Hallsville Road closed due to burst water main at A1011 Silvertown Way. Diversion: Via George Street, Jude Street and Tarling Road. Affecting bus routes 147 and 241
  • Temporary traffic lights and burst water main on B218 Brockley Rise both ways at St German’s Road. Two way lights with St. Germans road also closed.
  • Avey Lane both ways closed due to emergency repairs and burst water main between A112 Sewardstone Road and Mott Street. The pipes have burst in two locations, although residents are still be able to gain access. Diversion: Via Mott Street.

It occurs to me that it might be interesting to keep track of these.

Who cares about silly old burst water mains? Let’s build a bloody great desalination plant instead!

Hey, he’s trying to replenish the aquifer by pumping water from the desalination plant directly into the ground. He’s not stupid, you know; actually, as the Very Serious People will tell you, he’s really very clever if you know him personally.

Thank God he only has limited control over the water supply.

    This site sucks.
    Pro-Ken propaganda. Weak content.
Boris has acheived more since the start of his term, than Livingstone acheived in 2 whole terms.
