The Conservative Group at the London Assembly have been in touch to say that Mr. Coleman did not stay at the Hyatt Hotel in Birmingham during the Party Conference. I didn’t actually say he *had* stayed there (merely that he was entertained there, twice), but there you go, that’s the position they wish to put into the public domain, and I’m happy to do so. I’m also seeking clarification from them on which of Coleman, the other four AMs definitely present in Birmingham or the remaining six actually did run up the £2,192.50 bill for hospitality at the Hyatt, or whether the Independent was in error to attribute that claim to a Tory Assembly Member. Until this is resolved, I’m going to edit the original piece to link to this one instead.
In the light of the welcome decision by David Cameron not to go along with Gordon Brown’s idea of hiding MP’s expenses, plus Boris’s committment to openness, this is an excellent opportunity to get one over on Gordon Brown. I do hope they take it.
