The Best Of The Brown…

May 28th, 2009 by BenSix

Richard Barnbrook has released a fabulatory review of his first year as an AM, so let’s cast an eye over his claims and, as seems inevitable, the reality looming behind them…

Barnbrook has, as he asserts, been bullish on knife crime; both real incidents and ones that, for the purpose of self-promotion, he invented. This creative imagination is as hard on his colleagues as it’s soft on him: he claims to have been alone in his battle against knives, when in reality questions have been asked by Joanne McCartney, Bob Blackman, Graham Tope, Richard Barnes, Tony Arbour, Steve O’Connell and John Biggs.

Moreover, the man’s input isn’t at all worthwhile. He claims he’d tackle knife possession even “if it means giving out mandatory sentences of three years“. Over a thousand people were arrested in the few weeks of Operation Blunt; banging them up may have got them off the streets, but it wouldn’t have been helpful, either to them or to the taxpayer. Barnbrook’s hysterical attitude is ludicrous, especially as London’s knife crime seems to be falling.

That aside, Barnbrook’s proud of his cheerleading for St George’s Day celebrations. These had, as m’comrade Helen documented, already been heavily funded for years.

Perhaps, then, his greatest achievement has been the giggling we got from this…

Barnbrook’s greatest achievement has been, as you say, his contribution to comedy. Perhaps he and Darbo could put on their own show at the Edinburgh Fringe?
