It would be rather easy to recycle the last story for a story about recycling, but Boris has also announced at today’s MQT that he’s stepping aside from the London Waste and Recycling Board chair in favour of young James Cleverly.  To tell the truth I was a bit surprised he took the job in the first place, it’s a difficult role without much opportunity for the usual yammering into cameras Boris loves so much.

In any case, the Board has only actually existed under Boris (since September 2008, in fact), so it’s perfectly proper to look at how best to manage it.  It is slightly strange that the website redirects to London Councils, though – another Borough takeover?  The Board is mostly councillors, including the omnipresent Daniel Moylan, Boris’s thinking-brain-dog at TfL, too.

Well – lets see what happens when the EU fines all the London councils for failing to meet their recycling targets for food waste and that cost is passed onto taxpayers.

Sorry to use the Daily Snail, but it’s the best summary of the story I can find….

Local councils only have one answer to this – taxation. However with the expected increased taxation for bailing out the banks, do you think the public will stomach an increase in their council tax?

This is a car crash waiting to happen….no wonder Boris left it to someone else.
The teflon coat still works I see Boris – can’t blame Ken for this problem so it’s find a patsy and give him the job.

I agree with your point about yammering into cameras – unless Boris is the centre of attention, I think he can’t stomach endless meetings with their agendas, appendices and lack of opportunities for him to pontificate in Latin in full public view.
