Boris’s Sofa Government – Have His Expenses Fallen Down The Back?

February 2nd, 2010 by Helen

One of the innovations loudly trumpeted by Boris Johnson as increasing accountability at City Hall was the publication of expenses of the Mayor, his senior advisers and deputies on the GLA website. However, this seems to have slipped by the wayside as the Mayor’s expenses have not been updated for a whole five months and those of some of his advisers and deputies have not been updated for six months.

UPDATE 8/2/10: Boris’s expenses have magically been updated!

Without updating for such a long time? That’s so incredible.

In that time, how many times has he *trumpeted* the supposed innovation (i’d rather have press conferences) as proof of accountability?

I can’t keep up with the number of Mayoral election pledges falling at the wayside.

Maybe this site should concentrate on the much smaller number of ‘pledges fulfilled’ as it might be easier to get through!

All that saddens me is this Boris affari shows the idiocy of the Electorate – even in a (supposedly) highly educated area such as London.
The popularity contest the election turned into was always going to be lost by Ken (sorry mate, personailty not your strong point) – but the events of Boris’s time demonstrate why popular people make shit leaders.

I mean look at Tony Blair – very popular – but a complete twat who lied, deceived and tricked his way through parliment in order to fulfil his own ego trip.

Boris is no different in this respect to Blair.

…and will the electorate make the same mistake in May? I admit there is no choice on offer, but a Cameron Government will be like a Boris Mayorship – great shine on the outside but a black hole of ineptitude within.
