Last night, City Hall saw a reception for the British Society of Magazine Editors, hosted by the Mayor (curiously promoted to the rank of Major, for the occasion).
An attendee tweeted the following:
BSME event at City Hall last night still makes me laugh. Boris on why London is better than NYC: it doesn’t need a fruit as a brand. Genius.
LOL BORIS LEGERND!!!!!!!!!!!1111111111111
New York, you see, has long been known as The Big Apple. Hang on, though, London’s nickname is The Big Smoke, and with the highest levels of Nitrogen Dioxide pollutants in Europe it doesn’t look as though London will be discarding that “brand” any time soon.

Well maybe soon we will have a fruit or something else as a brand: http://www.underconsideration.com/brandnew/archives/in_brief_london_calling_all_designers.php

Maybe we’ll end up calling London ‘the Big Banana’ after we realise what a mess of a city is left by the Boris machine – jsut in time for the next Government to cut the city to shreds.
Don’t forget folks, after the big losses in Finance the last thing London needs is to loose it’s second industry – Public sector.
Nobody has bothered to mention this – but London will be hit disproportionately hard.
I thought that in a recent speech in New York late last year when Boris Johnson was representing London at a big gathering he said to his audience ” We ( The English ) gave you Mad Cow Decease , and you ( The American’s ) gave us Swine Flu. So how on Earth can Boris Johnson make any sane comparisons regarding anything. Someone correct me if I have missed the point ?, Please.
“Someone correct me if I have missed the point ?”
I think this might have been one of his famous witticisms. He’s famous for his wit. Didn’t you hear that he’s famous for his wit? Famous for it, he is.
Now, what’s his job again?
Hang on, I thought fruit was good – or is Boris continuing with the Coca-Cola and crisps promotions in his healthy eating campaign?
Famous for his wit. There is a time and a place for wit especially if you use bizarre wit that is distasteful and inappropiate for the occasion. It appears that some may see Boris Johnsons prevaricating waffle and inappropiate bizarre wit as famous and acceptable, what if Gordon Brown or another high ranking politician had made those bizarre comments at that meeting?, there would have been a great outcry.Forget the fruit why not have a recipe for Smoked Apple with Beef and Pork Crisps/Chips.
