Statistics : A Challenge To The Candidates
Having detailed how the current Mayor abuses the loophole that excludes the GLA from the Statistics Act, and his reaction when asked to sign up voluntarily, I’ve decided to ask all seven Mayoral candidates whether they would sign up if elected:
Dear Candidate,
In the light of public concern about rising crime, are you willing to pledge to increase public trust in the Mayoralty and close a legal loophole by signing up all GLA bodies to the UK Statistics Authority Code of Conduct (http://www.statisticsauthority.gov.uk/assessment/code-of-practice/index.html) if you are elected on May 3rd 2012?
Yours sincerely

Hmmm .. maybe change to “… signing up all GLA bodies to the UK Statistics Authority Code of Conduct within 1 week of taking office.”
Otherwise the candidate could/would sign up 3 yrs 11 months into his/her mayoralty.

Jenny Jones was the first person to ask Boris to sign up to the code back in March 2011:

The guts at 38 Degrees should be able to help here — I think they’ve organised some mail-all-the-mayoral-candidates round-robins.
The guys at 38 Degrees, obviously…
Oh dear, the childish morons are out again.
However, very few politicians (probably even fewer as a proportion than the general public(!)) can get a grasp of “Stats” – similar to that other word: “Risk” in fact. [see Note]
And it is very depressing.
The original poster has a good point, but it does not look as though he is going to get a sensible answer.
Note: What is a human life worth?
1} On the railways, about £10 million
2} On the roads, about £50k
Depressing, isn’t it?
“Note: What is a human life worth?

Only capitalists value life in pounds – this is why morals are heading out the door as the age of materialistic madness ensues (aka looting and rioting which will be blamed on the poor)
